4th of July

A gorgeous day on the mountain - the humidity has moved out and we are gearing up for a big 4th of July weekend. A tip for our bloggers - the best place to view the fireworks is from Old Hwy 76 at the dam. Killer!

Remember, please, that fireworks are illegal on My Mountain. Best to leave the pyrotechnics to the professionals.

Enjoy!

I spoke too soon...

...as the hot & humid weather is back with a vengeance. Nights are still very nice for porch sitting, but the days are sizzlin'! What I wouldn't give to be floatin' the Toccoa in a tube today!

A great & rare day yesterday - both David & I got to ride out together on our mares. With our master horseman/teacher, Dave Seay with us riding Nicky, and Deborah (owner of MacCarthy Farm) on Ruby, we had a fabulous time. Now it is back to reality & preparing for the 4th of July crowds. We have a few spaces left, so book now if you're thinking of heading up this way for some R-n-R!!

Cooler Weather

The hot spell has broken, and while it is still plenty warm during the day, the humidity is lower, and the evenings are perfect for "porch sitting".

As yesterday was the 1 year anniversary of the day I got my lovely mare, Faith Elizabeth, she and I took our first solo trail ride together. As a result, I am sore today!

It's hard to believe that the 4th of July is just around the corner! Where did June go???? In any event, the fireworks over the lake are so stunning and we hope you'll be here to see them.

Lots to do....

Nice surprises...

We are always striving to make our guests' cabin rental in Blue Ridge the best it can be, and just love it when we receive "happy notes" from them. Jeff & Elaine Orr, repeat guests to Above the Rest Cabins, were kind enough to forward this note regarding their recent stay at A Mountain Paradise:

"Jeanette and David,

Thanks for a great stay as usual at Above The Rest! We loved the "A Mountain Paradise" Cabin and its fine amenities. Had a smooth drive out and and a smooth drive back. The Lord was with us! We again hiked the Aska trail, Flat Creek Loop, (only about 20 minutes in, and saw another black bear! 2 for 2 on that trail...) Thanks again, Jeff & Elaine."

Pretty impressive hiking agenda considering Jeff's lower leg was in a cast!

Closer to Heaven...

I was out cleaning the lower deck at A Peak of Perfection today, when I heard the unmistakable cry....I searched the skies but could not find its source....and so returned to my work. Ten minutes later I heard it again, looked out toward the valley, and there it was - a bald eagle, hanging on a thermal like a hovercraft, not 50 yards away from me. His position (male birds of prey are 1/3 the size of females, and this was clearly a male) did not change for what seemed like an eternity, then he changed his wing pitch and went into a dive. What he was hunting I could not see....nor did I see him return with anything. The 30 seconds we "shared" made me realize how lucky we are to be in the mountains, and that you truly are closer to heaven here.

Things are heating up!

We're having a bit of a hot streak on the mountain with temperatures in the low 90s and relatively high humidity. We finally had to break down and turn the house air conditioner on! BUT....this makes for perfect weather for tubing...which is where I'd be today if I were not out steaming carpets so they'll be shiny clean for our guests! :)

Getting the Most from Your Trip

David and I just love Fannin County & Blue Ridge. While we don't get to explore as often as we used to when we were vacationing here, it is our greatest pleasure to help guests with activities while they are in the area. One of the best places to start is the Fannin County Chamber of Commerce website: www.blueridgemountains.com . With information on hiking, restaurants, shopping, and virtually every activity you can think of, it's a fantastic resource to start your trip planning! Enjoy!
